ABOUT EQUESTRIAN AUSTRALIA
Equestrian Australia (EA) is the peak body for the administration of Equestrian Sport in Australia. The organisation manages four Olympic / Paralympic sports and four non-Olympic equestrian sports. The key stakeholders of Equestrian Australia are the seven State and Territory state branches.
Australia has earned the reputation as an elite Equestrian nation as a result of significant success at Olympic & Paralympic Games as well as victories at other peak international Equestrian events.
Equestrian Australia receives income through significant grants from the Federal Government, through the Australian Sports Commission, for participation and high-performance programs; membership fees; various national programs; corporate sponsors and a range of various commercial activities.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Reporting to the EA Board, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the organisation and its national programs and functions, as well as giving direction and leadership toward the achievement of strategic, operational and commercial priorities set out in the 2017 – 2020 Strategic Plan.
You will represent the organisation and its values and goals with members, state branches, government and regulatory bodies, other key stakeholders and the broader Equestrian community as well as developing effective relationships with the Australian Sports Commission, AOC, FEI, The Dept. of Agriculture, Australian Horse Industry Council and Animal Health Australia.
You will be responsible for reducing the reliance on funding from the Federal Government by identifying and developing new properties that will promote the sport of the Equestrian whilst being attractive to a wider membership base, sponsors and other commercial partners.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES
You will have proven Chief Executive Officer or Senior Executive experience including reporting into a board. You will possess exceptional leadership capabilities and management experience, ability to develop and implement strategic change, strong commercial acumen and possess outstanding ability to build, develop and harness sustainable relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
The successful candidate will be a resilient, dynamic and engaging individual with political maturity, patience and diplomacy skills. Sports management experience within a large membership based sport and an empathy for volunteerism in a not for profit organization would be an advantage but is not essential.
Preference will be given to a candidate who brings a strong interest and deep understanding of equestrian sport.
