ABOUT THE CHIEFS
The Chiefs Rugby Club was founded in 1996 as the Waikato Chiefs for the inaugural Super 12 season. The Chiefs are one of five New Zealand professional rugby union sides who play in the Super Rugby competition. Based in Hamilton, New Zealand, the Chiefs primary home ground is FMG Stadium Waikato, but covers the region including Counties, Bay of Plenty, Thames Valley, King Country, Taranaki and Waikato.
The Chiefs won back-to-back Super Rugby Championships in 2012 & 2013 under Head Coach Dave Rennie, and assistants Wayne Smith, Andrew Strawbridge and Tom Coventry. In 2019 they broke the record for most consecutive playoff appearances by a Super Rugby team with an impressive 8th consecutive appearance. In 2021, history was made when the Waitomo Chiefs Women faced the Blues Women at Eden Park in New Zealand’s first ever women’s Super-Rugby match, and in 2022 The Waitomo Chiefs Manawa went on to win the inaugural Women’s Super Rugby Championship under the fantastic coaching group led by Alan Bunting. The Gallagher Chiefs are fortunate to have world class coaching group which includes Head Coach Clayton McMillan and a playing roster with senior and up and coming All Blacks.
ROLE SUMMARY
Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will be responsible for leading and managing the organisation to deliver on Chiefs Rugby Club purpose and the strategic performance outcomes whilst leading a performance culture that consistently reflects Chiefs Mana.
You will provide vision and leadership to rugby in the region, represent the Chiefs with distinction as a member of the domestic and international rugby community and ensure the Chiefs remain connected to the community and culturally inclusive.
You will be responsible for representing and enhancing the Chiefs brand nationally and globally, for building sustainable commercial partnerships, ensuring the strategic goals and objectives of the organisation are always achieved while ensuring the high-performance rugby programs are world-class.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- You will have proven experience working in a senior executive position as well as being an inspirational leader who can build and sustain a strong organisational culture.
- You will have excellent presentation skills, strong commercial acumen and demonstrate an outstanding ability to build, develop and harness sustainable relationships across diverse stakeholder groups locally, nationally and internationally.
- You will have a dynamic and engaging leadership style, political and cultural maturity, ability to influence and a passion for Rugby Union and / or high-performance sport.
